Jack Blair is the Managing Director of JDB Environmental Ltd and brings a wealth of experience to the industry through years of work in telemetry, instrumentation and equipment within water & sewage treatment.
Background
After studying at Belfast College of Technology back in 1960 he began working in the telephone industry and was Area Engineer for AEI Telecommunications Ltd. His career developed from there into instrumentation & control in ICI Ltd, before moving on to Kent Instruments Ltd, in 1973.
He was employed by DD Butler Ltd, a company that emerged from Kent Instruments in 1975 to cover sales and service of instrumentation for the George Kent Group in Northern Ireland. Jack became Technical Manager, a position he held for over 20 years, and his role involved both technical and application sales. The company's main client was the Water Service, but they also supplied food processing plants, dairies, general industry and district councils.
The launch of JDB Instrumentation
The opportunity arose for Jack to launch his own business in June 2002. JDB Instrumentation was formed, and was favoured with promoting a number of key agencies all related to the water and sewage industries. Jack has, over the years, built strong relationships with public utilities, contractors and consulting engineers, whilst developing extensive expertise in telemetry equipment, water & electricity metering, process analysers and leakage detection.
Growing Markets
Water Consumption Monitoring
The growing need to monitor water usage is making an impact on many large scale users. With the availability of the Primayer range of data loggers, along with Jack's knowledge and experience on water meters and pulse units, customers are now installing their own monitoring equipment in growing numbers. Data loggers alert customers immediately of leaks and unexpected high consumption giving them greater control of water usage and keeping subsequent costs to a minimum.
Primayer data loggers are the preferred loggers N I Water have chosen to use throughout their drinking water distribution network.
Rain Water Harvesting
Rain Water Harvesting is proving to be an attractive alternative to the use of treated drinking water provided by N I Water, for many industrial applications such as washing processes and toilet flushing. These processes do not need the high quality provided by mains water. Gathering and storing rain water from roofs and using it for suitable applications can produce significant savings in water costs. The Rewatec harvesting system offer high quality tanks and pumps along with professional filters which will meet the demands of industry for reliable, low maintenance systems.
